TECHNICAL INFORMATIONS
The Peace Tower, symbolising Franco-Russian ties,
is erected in the middle of Sennaya Square. The 18.15 m high tower
consists of a 2.50 m high concrete base covered in stainless steel
bearing a 15.50 m metal frame also clad in stainless steel. A curved
screen made up of 24 glass panels is fixed to each side of the frame.
Each panel is overlaid with a screen-printed film of the word 'Peace'
written in 48 languages and 18 alphabets. The whole structure is
erected on a 38 m long granite pedestal with a central approach
marked out with lights and commemorative plates with etched signatures
of the heads of state and government who have visited the town and
wished to declare their commitment to peace.
The foundations comprise four 600 mm diameter piles
and a round 5 m diameter slab of reinforced concrete covered with
a layer of cement and a final coating.
The gently sloping pedestal-approach is 38 m long
and varies in width from 5 to 0.80 m, and is made of concrete. The
edges are clad in granite and the central part in a pattern of flamed
granite slabs. Embedded in the stone cladding are stainless steel
plaques about 0,15 m wide, including one long plaque bearing the
names of the artists and companies who took part in the project
The oval-shaped base is made of reinforced concrete,
is 2.50 m high and about 1.80 m wide, and is clad in stainless steel.
The base houses the technical premises.
The main metal framework of the tower is composed
of a core structure and two vertical tubes connected to the core
by brackets. The framework, embedded in the base, is covered with
a stainless-steel cladding pierced with openings through which steel
bearing brackets have been passed in order to support the two glass
walls.
The two outer walls are made of curved glass panels,
2.50 m high and 1.80 m wide. Each sheet comprises 12 panels for
a total height of 15 m and total width of 3.60 m. The glass is coated
with a screen-printed film of the word Peace.
The lighting, signalling and markings of the tower
include:
– six spotlights at the top of the base which light up the
inscriptions on the glass
– two projectors at the top of the tower that can be seen
all over the city
– two sets of border lights comprising 48 spotlights embedded
in the pedestal's granite cladding and a built-in luminous fibre-optic
cable around the pedestal.
